Jim Corbett is a very famous national park in India located in Nainital. It is the first national park in India. It was established in 1936. Earlier it was known by the name of Hailey national park . After independence in 1954, Hailey national park was renamed as ramganga national park. In 1957, the name of the park was changed again as Jim Corbett National park. Corbett may have been famous as the hunter of man eaters but he never lost the feeling of respect and love for tigers and other animals. Corbett played a significant role in the history of Jim Corbett National park. 

In 1999 it was recorded that 500,000 tourists visited the national park. It covers an area of 1,318 Km, forest covers 73 percent of park, grassland covers 10 per cent of land.

Corbett saw in many tigers that he was already sick and injured, some of them were wounded by humans.corbett tells in his book man eaters of Kumaon that after killing it. He saw that his tigress had already been hit by a bullet. 

Corbett understood that it was more important to save tigers from humans than the other way around. In 1930, James Corbett along with prominent lawyer Hasan Abid Jaffrey formed the provincial association for conservation of Indian wildlife uttarakhand at that time was the part of United province.After much effort James Corbett succeeded and Hailey national park was formed in 1936. 

The wounds given by humans to tigers make them man eaters.  The first national park of the Asian mainland built by James Corbett has Beena major contribution to India and its wildlife. Since Jim was born in India,  he had immense love for its people . He wrote a book about India and dedicated it to Indians .In 1928 George V awarded kaisar-i-hind to Corbett for his bravery.

In 1968 Corbett’s honor a indo-chinese subspecies was named panthera Tigris corbetti.He built a treehouse on top of a focus free And started living in it because of his love towards nature. Jim Corbett died from a heart attack on April 19 ,1955 when he had just finished his book’ Treetops ‘.

With an area of 1288 sq km Corbett tiger reserve is in ramnagar town uttarakhand. 

In a 520 sq km spread national park neighboring 310 sq km sonanadi wildlife sanctuary makes a sustainable habitat for tigers .
